Proposed by Synod Publication Board, the Synod Executive Committee passed a resolution to establish an archive in 1987. Rapid progress could not be made in pursuance of the matter due to lack of manpower and other factors. In 1991, with the celebration Gospel Centenary in Mizoram, the Centenary Committee formed the ‘Centenary Archives,’ with specific worker assigned to it. Following that year, the Archives began to function in 1992 collecting Pastors and Church Elders’ Baptism and Wedding Registers, Mizoram Presbyterian Church Synod minutes etc. The named Centenary Archives was renamed to ‘Synod Archives.’
 
Since Synod Archives collects old documents, it requires different maintenance. Most of the documents had been digitize and scanned during 2018-19. Baptism and Wedding Registers have been digitally entered using specially developed software and are stored in Cloud Storage. Physical books are also treated in the Fumigation Chamber.    
 
A general list of documents collected include PCI Assembly minutes, NEICC minutes, Mizoram Presbyterian Church Synod minutes, various Presbytery minutes, Pastorate minutes, Church Women and Church Youth Conference minutes and magazines, Synod Executive Committee minutes, Officers’ Meeting minutes and minutes of the various Synod Departments, Baptism and Wedding Registers, Nilai and Beihrual Thupui, PCI Dân Bu, Service Rules, different Bible translations and various Hymn books, etc. Some of these are rare documents which dated back to 100 years ago.
 
The Synod Archives remain an important library. In case a baptismal or wedding certificate is damaged or lost, one may procure a duplicate certificate through the Pastor or through the Church Committee to the Executive Secretary i/c Archives (if the Pastor is no more).
