July 11, 2023 | STATIC PAGE

The Synod Literature & Publication Board (SL&PB) is a full fledged Board under the Mizoram Presbyterian Church, which periodically releases books and newspapers to the public. It is most well known by its abbreviated form, namely the SL&PB.

Introduction
In 1930, the Mizoram Presbyterian Church Assembly formed the Literature Publishing Organisation with seven members. In 1937, the ‘Literature & Translation Board’ was also formed. Rev. Liangkhaia took the responsibility of supervising the Boards in 1948.

The early days
In 1961, the ‘Synod Literature Committee’ was formed to take the initiative of releasing more books for people. This Committee then partnered up with the Press & Bookroom Committee to collectively form the ‘Synod Publication Board’ in 1978, which would allow more publication work to be quickly done. The Board swiftly took initiatives right from the start of its formation and collaboration with the Synod Literature Committee, where work was evenly distributed amongst its members. The main aim of the Committee is to promote the advent of wholesome prose and poetry for Mizo Christians.

In 1994, the Synod Inkhawmpui combined the ‘Synod Literature Committee’ and ‘Synod Publication Board’ to become one full fledged board, and was newly called the Synod Literature & Publication Board’ from then on.

SL&PB Office Objectives:
• Books: The Board releases books that promote the Mizo cultural sensibility hnam and books that will be helpful to the church. Around 30-40 books are released every year by the SL&PB
• Newspapers: The SL&PB has released three newspapers for the Mizoram Presbyterian church, namely: Kristian Tlângau (43,400 copies) the oldest periodical newspaper iu Mizaram (1911), Kristian Naupang (29,000 copies) and Synod Newsletter (1,50,000 copies).
• Campaigns and seminars are regularly held in order to promote the interest of prose and poetry for the church members.
• Books that are deemed essential and worthwhile are also periodically collected.
