The Presbyterian Church Synod in its annual session in 1961 resolved to open a Christian High School. The following year, the Mizoram Presbyterian Synod High School was started and officially opened on March 8, 1962 by Shri B.C Roy, the then Deputy Commissioner of Mizo District. In 1966, the name was changed to ‘Mizo Synod High School,’ and ‘Synod High School’in 1984. Introduction of higher education in 1996 by the government changed the name to ‘Synod Higher Secondary School.’ The motto of the school is ‘Pro Christi Et-Ecclesia’ which means ‘For Christ and the Church.’
The school which started with just a Headmaster, two teachers, one office staff and 32 students have now celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2012 and Diamond Jubilee in 2022.
The school has a well-established library and a convenient canteen in its campus. Separate science laboratory are set up for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The Computer Room functions efficiently to improve students in the field of Information Technology. The school was even awarded a National Award - Computer Literacy Award in 2005. The Archive Room was also set up in 2012.
Th school organizes Sermon Class in every last Friday of the month, and also occasional host Crusades. The school is also often awarded for their Blood Donation organized by the school’s NSS Unit. The school also practices Work Experience, Co-Curricular Activities and Sports.
