Mission Development Training Centre (MDTC) was initially called the “Mission Outreach Training Institute” by the Synod Mission Board, and it was established in 1993 at Bualpui N’, Kolasib District. It was then inaugurated by Rev S.R.Lalkailuaia on Dt. 28.11.2001,   the Synod Moderator of the time. This same location at Bualpui North was once home to the CRPF during the Mizoram insurgency. The land was given by the state to the Synod Mission Board in 1993 to be utilized as a Mission Outreach Training Institute. It has a dimension of 58.91 bighas in area.
 
 
The Synod Mission swiftly utilized the land for the establishment of its Mission Outreach Training Institute (MOTI). As per the 1996 Synod Gen.44 (Appendix 5) leh Gen. No 56 (Appendix  No 9. IV (b) 2), Mission Outreach Training Institute MOTI was changed to Mission Development Training Centre (MDTC), a name it still carries today. Construction began in 1993, and training began in 2001 with veterinary poultry farming. From 1999, a donation of Rs. 23 lakhs was received from the Council for World Mission (CWM) as part of its Training Centre, with construction of buildings, quarters, hostels, offices and spaces for poultry farms being initiated.
 
 
The post of Director was established on January, and a Managing Committee to look after the Centre was made as part of the 2003 Synod 2002 Gen. 50 (Mission Manual, Schedule 18.0).
 
Perhaps MDTC may be an initiative of the church which is not too well known by the general public. The following are the reasons for its establishment:
1)  To aid missionaries in guiding and teaching the people of the state in ministry.
2) To help new believers in taking care of themselves.
 
Currently, MDTC runs four (4) Training trades. These different training trades have their own respective training sessions while generating income at the same time. The trades are as follows:
1. Veterinary: Poultry farm training was started in 2001, which was then changed to Veterinary in 2009. Under this trade, chickens (broiler and layer), cows and pigs are domesticated. There is also a Vety Clinic put in place as well.


2. Carpentry: Started in 2005, the carpentry trade currently has 33 batches. There have been 130 students who have completed training so far.


3. Agriculture & Horti : The Agriculture & Horti initiative was taken in the year 1993, with various crops harvested. At the time, only one (1) worker was assigned to the field. This training for this particular trade was started in 2006, with 23 completed batches and 56 in the process of training.


4. Tailoring : The tailoring trade was newly started in 2019, currently holding only 7 trainees due to the advent of the lockdown.

 
The Mission Development Training Centre is the only Vocational Training Centre under the Synod Mission Board, with various measures being taken to continually develop its trades in the future.
